[Dailydrool] toothless Emma!

This morning, I dropped Emma off at the vet's office. She LOVES the staff &
has them wrapped around her little dew claw! She got the vet techs & the
vetlady to give her bellyrubs & was a happy camper. The reason for the visit
was to have a dental, which she received. The staff said they'd call me for
a total & to let me know if she needed any extractions. I found out my phone
had accidently turned off, and called & was informed that they were
finishing up her extractions, and were already up to 10! Yes, I said 10
TEETH! Poor little sassy butt is now half toothless!! I knew she needed her
front 4 on the bottom jaw out, they were kinda worn/broken & nasty looking,
but I had no idea they were ALL bad!! She had all her incisers pulled, so
now only has teeth from the canines on back, on both the top & bottom jaw. I
have to go & get her in a little bit, and I was told they're sending her
home w/a bunch of meds (including tramadol for the pain) and some cans of
dog food. (I was annoyed that the vet insisted on giving me EN cans, and not
letting me buy what I felt would be a better option. I'm NOT a science diet
fan, but at least it's the perscription stuff, not the stuff from the
supermarket!) I've been assured that she'll be fine in about a week, and
that once her mouth is healed, crunching up kibble should not be a problem,
but I am cautiously optimistic about that... Anyone else in drool land have
a nearly toothless houndie? I was told by the vet that she shouldn't have
'slippy tongue,' because the canines are still there, but I have a feeling
she'll be and extremely drooly little monster w/o the teeth there to stop
it! If anyone has a little spare 'mouth healing' drool, I think Emma may
need a bit for the next few days.

I kind of feel like a bad houndie momma... I've only had her for about a
year, and I know that the rescue had a cleaning & some work done (I think
she lost a few teeth then too!) I just hope that her new, higher quality
diet didn't exacerbate the teeth... She NEVER once showed that her teeth
were bothering her! She gained about 10-ish lbs since I got ahold of her, so
she definitely ate just fine, but still... I gotta wonder if she had an
excessive amount of mouth pain & I was just clueless :(
