Otter was a puppy when we brought him home (10 wks old) our first puppy
EVER,and we had Kita, our Malamute. She was indifferent to him which
was good because outside of our pack she was dog aggressive. She knew
from day one she best not touch a hair on his head. She actually would
let him sleep by her. She loved her pack. At two, Otter stopped
playing with toys, Kita never played with toys. He looked lonely so
enter Radar, his half brother. He was also 10 wks old. I have NEVER
gotten the cold shoulder treatment as grand as the one I got from
Otter. He didn't want a baby brother and he made it known to everyone.
He wouldn't look at me. He wouldn't sit with me. He wouldn't come near
me...even for a treat!!!! It broke my heart. I cried. He tormented me
and I believe he enjoyed it. He wouldn't go near his new brother
either. It took 4 LONG months before he would share space with Radar
and BEGIN to forgive me.
Kita passed away 2 years ago in Oct. The house was empty w/o 3 dogs so
the search was on. In Dec. '09 we adopted Mollie, the Bloodhound, from
Tenn. She was WILD at 2 years old. They both disliked her. They said
this was NOT what they asked Santa for on their list. Otter accepted
her first once they got the personal space thing worked out...he doesn't
like her in his. It took Radar 8 months before he decided she could
stay. Now...everyone gets along so well. NO fights...it's too
QUIET...I've been looking for a 4th dog...
Good luck with getting your boy. It might take her time but she will
eventually forgive you, tolerate her new brother and maybe even love him.
