Hi all,
I just got up from snuggling with Jr. and Jean Paul. Jean Paul is always a sweetie, and I am training jr. to become one. I find he is appreciating a good snuggle more and more, and since in the am, after first outs, he usually claims my pillow, we get really close. This is a dog who would be highly reactive to a mere touch, with a snark and attempted nip, but more and more this is going away. I don't know how he lived as a puppy, and I rescued him at 9 months. A lot of socialization, a lot of classes, a lot of embarrassing dress up moments later, he sure is a different dog. He was put into rescue for not getting along with small kids in the family, and at the Pet expo, there was a baby who could barely walk hugging him so tight around his neck, a young girl knelling down next to him hugging him for a photo op and another kid with ice cream on his lips that Pierre was diligently going to clean for him till the Mama person gently redirected Pierre's tongue away from her son's snooter.
Don't get me wrong, he still has moments, like the other day when he seriously objected to the bath and needed his muzzle. Usually, I feed him bits of treats during the bath, but he wouldn't get in the tub at all. For the most part, the cranky moments are less, and I hope someday, they leave him all together. I once rescued Fred basset in 1994, and he was 1.5 yrs. He was a pretty angry dog, and I used to walk him with two leashes all the time, in fear one would break, and he became a mush. Jr. is different though, and I can't help but think he went through some really tough times as a pup.
BTW, hotmail saved me from opening a potential virus, as I had an email in my junk folder, and it claimed to be from the usps. The subject was a delivery failure of sorts. I checked with snopes, and there is a form of this virus going around.
Heads up, be safe all.
Healing drool to all in need.
