[Dailydrool] vomity dogs

Dogs who vomit more than twice should have their food AND WATER pulled for
the next 8 hours at least. If you keep feeding them or giving them water
they will most likely continue to puke. The more they puke the sorer their
tummy is. That tummy needs to rest. At the end of 8 hours if the dog is
still ok start with about a quarter inch of water in the water dish. Yes I
know.
Nothing is harder to do than to do this with a Basset unless it is to do it
when you have more than one and the others are fine and one has to watch
them eat and drink while he sits in his crate and understands that you no
longer love him, that you have abandoned him, that he will never eat again
and will slowly starve, watching his brothers and sisters grow fat and
sassy on HIS portions....but it will help more than NOT doing it.
If you start water and he keeps it down for an hour or so, offer a HANDFUL
of food. If he keeps that down you can give water and maybe the first day
several small meals.
If he throws up again, you need a Vet visit.
I have become something of an expert at this.
Trust me.
The guilt is overwhelming.
