[Dailydrool] Answering on the list

This is such an important issue. When I first came to the Drool, I was
looking for help with health issues faced by the late lamented Billy
Basset, whose immune system appeared to have imploded. I got lots of
suggestions, compiled them in a file and took them all to the vet. She read
the list and said we could try any of them except for one that was
dangerous for him. (No aspersions on the person who suggested it -- it just
didn't fit with what the vet knew about BB's particular condition.) We
tried most of them. I don't know if they helped, but it helped us.

Here's the thing: I would not have thought of any of these things by
myself. They weren't the magic cure-all, but they gave us something to try,
and even more importantly, they let us know that someone out there cared
about our dear boy.

I don't make a lot of suggestions when people ask about things because I
fortunately don't have a lot of experience with bassets and health problems
(touch wood!). But I try to suggest what I can when I can, and I take the
advice I get with a grateful heart and the realization that I, working with
my vet, need to decide what is best for my dog.

I would really be sad if we all thought we shouldn't suggest things any
more because of liability etc.(Vernon Q Basset notes proudly that this will
never be an issue for him; he is Pricesless in real value, but absolutely
Worthless for cash! No need for litigation.)

Thank you to all who have offered help and guidance as I take on
hound-whatevering. (I won't say raising, since they are never over 14
inches unless they are on the table, and I can't say training for reasons
that are obvious in the first part of the sentence.)
