Regarding the comments on the AKC and non-profit organizations, did you know 
that you are entitled to see the "Return of  Organization Exempt from Income 
Tax" (tax return to the rest of us), either form 990 or 990EZ?  On the top 
of the forms "Open to Public Inspection" is clearly indicated.   There is a 
valuable website called guidestar.org that collects these forms and they are 
free for all to see.  On the forms all income as well as officers and their 
salaries are listed.  You must register, but there is no cost for the basic 
service.

The dollars reported by the AKC, both in income and salaries, made my jaw 
drop.   Let me say that two of our hounds are registered,  Hurricane Harley 
(PW Harley Chick) is the "normal" registration and Fred is ILP.  We competed 
in rally and they both have "Rally Novice" titles.  OK, so that's a little 
like a kindergarten diploma, but it was fun.

Also available on guidestar.org are your local rescues and all manner of 
non-profits.  I do check a group out before I send any of my money and I 
generally don't support any group that pays a good percentage of it's income 
to officers.   I do vote with my checkbook!
