Pat,
I had a 10 year old Newf that developed a black olive sized tumor on the top of his left foot.  My allopathic vet ( "conventional" western vet if you will) Xrayed it and diagnosed it as a senovial carcinoma.  He explained to me at great length that this was a tricky removal because the top of the foot does not have an extraneous amount of tissue or skin making it hard to close post op and that if he was not very careful nerve damage was a very real possibility.  This would leave my 165 pound, 32 inch at the shoulder boy walking on only 3 feet.  This seemed a dicey option and a 10 year old Newf is considered elderly.
I decided to have him treated by my homeopathic vet.  I figured what did I have to lose?  She treated him with homeopathy and acupuncture.  In 30 days, the tumor was completely gone and never came back.  My boy lived to be 12  1/2 and eventually succumbed to a stroke.  My conventional vet was pleased and not totally surprised by the results.
Pat, I would consider taking Phoebe to a Holistic vet.  You might want to ask one of your friends if they have a vet you might try or try locating a vet via the links I sent to the list yesterday
