I am so sorry that once again you must deal with the dreaded C.  I think that you would be wise to try holistic with a holistic vet and if that is not possible I would search online for some supplements. There is a website called Natural Rearing. The woman raises bassets and seems to know her stuff. 
I hope you find something out there to give Beasley all the quality time you can.
