We've gone on a kibble quest several times over the past few years. Shadow
has issues and we've tried switching things up to get her to eat but Suzy
has a sensitive stomach and will develop diarrhea with certain foods. Right
now we're using a grain free kibble with fish but it's a long drawn out
process to switch over to a grain free food. One of the things that we
discovered on our kibble quest was, when a company is sold, the new owner
may keep the same ingredients but will change the quality of the
ingredients. The manufacturer has to disclose the ingredients, but they
don't have to disclose where they get the ingredients from or what the
quality is. We found that out the hard way with Innova when P&G bought
them. Everyone had been fine on it until several months after P&G took
over. All of a sudden everyone started having terrible gas (the kind that
will clear a room!) and Suzy started having diarrhea. I had actually saved
an old label because I was afraid that they were going to change
ingredients but everything was exactly the same so I started asking
questions. Well, at one point we were told that we must have gotten a bag
that the kibble had been "burned". Hmmmm, made me question their quality
control. When the problem continued with the next bag of food we spoke to
another food rep and he suggested that the ingredients might be the same
but the quality of the ingredients or producer could be different. We gave
up at that point and went to a different food because the Houndettes
bellies were certainly in distress. They haven't cleared a room since we
got them switched over. So anyway, even though the label of your dog food
may show the same ingredients that it's always had, a change in the quality
of the ingredients certainly can have a dramatic effect on our dogs. That
might be something that you want to consider if you notice a change in your
dog after they eat or if their allergies become worse.

I know this probably won't excite anyone else except the DH and I but
Jersey has learned to howl! The other three have always had beautiful howls
with Suzy being our bell hound but Jersey has always kind of huffed along
without a genuine howl. Well, the last couple of times (right now being one
of them!) she's actually howling right along with the rest! I LOVE it! Her
howl sounds a little like she has pebbles in her throat but it's an honest
to goodness howl! Maybe old dogs do learn some new tricks sometimes!

Heart healing and get well drool is being slung to all in need.
