[Dailydrool] Limping & Voting

One of the things that I think we all forget about our hounds is that they
are technically dwarfs and have all the joint issues that human dwarfs
generally have. I had no idea that bassets were thought of as dwarfs until
our Suzy had some issues with her leg that required orthopedic surgical
intervention. We were actually quite taken back when the orthopedist
referred to her as a dwarf! We do what we can at our house to protect the
Houndettes from joint injury but, with a crew of fairly young hounds except
for Jersey, we can't keep them from jumping off the furniture and we have
stairs in our house that they have to go up and down. They all go through
periods of limping here and there on occasion. We've been lucky most of the
time and it has only been normal joint pain from them abusing themselves.
However, Jersey has suffered from a partially torn ACL once and Suzy did
have to have her leg surgically broken because of a growth plate problem. I
guess I'm saying, don't freak at the first sign of a limp but do keep in
mind that our hounds are very unique critters (in more ways than one!!!)
and don't get too complacent if a limp turns into a chronic problem.

I also wanted to remind everyone that you can vote from every Internet
capable device you have. Your computers, ipads, tablets and phones. I go
ahead and vote from the library computer when I'm there too. My daughter
always has her ipad with her so she votes for the chosen shelter when she
stops into Starbucks or anyplace that has wifi. There are tons of
opportunity for us to help Western Missouri win that prize money. I have
also found that I can vote at either end of the day too so please keep that
in mind. Also, please make sure you click on that purple button after
you've verified your vote. Every dog deserves a chance and you'll be
helping to feed a needy dog in a shelter some place.

The Houndettes are slinging get well and heart healing drool laced with
prayers from me to all in need.
