because glaucoma is so prevalent in bassets i am asking for opinions.
einstein lost sight in his right eye due to glaucoma (pretty much
overnight). we saw yet another specialist who recommended removal of
the eye with two options. The price difference is negligible........if
you have experience with either can you write back with your opinions?
1. Removal of the eye and suturing the eye lids closed. hair will grow
over the area and dog will appear to have a squinty look. pain gone,
only after care is follow up visit to check for infection. 2. removal
of the eye contents and placing a prosthetic "eyeball" in the sac.
first glance will look like a real eye, as the muscles are intact and
there is movement of the "eyebrow". the eye will appear, grayish, and
on second glance will not look real. pain is gone. follow up will be
drops in that eye to help with healing and infection after surgery. my
opinion? I like the prosthetic because the muscular movement of the eye
is intact keeping his face symmetrical and with expression. with the
suturing it would be healed in a week with no other after care to
"annoy" him with, but his face will look asymmetrical. From his point
of view, and what would be less trauma for him, it would be the
suturing. the prosthetic is for everyone else he comes in contact
with. Have you done one and had regrets? ......nancy
