Just wanted to let everyone know that Washington Basset Rescue won the local charity prize of $10,000.00. What a huge help to a rescue!  And I know a lot of you are thinking that is a gigantic sum of money. Well, it is. But the amount of money rescues spend and need, is always more gigantic. I think I read WABR had 84 adoptions last year. I know Utah Friends of Basset Hounds has had over 100 the last couple years, and I know from personal Utah experience, there is never enough money. The regular spay, neuter, vaccines, dentals. You think you are doing pretty well until you have a heartworm positive, or a guy with canine flu (or Parvo-one year we had multiple Parvo cases). Or an emergency bloat. You can drop several thousand bucks pretty darn fast on vet bills. Rescue is about saving as many dogs as possible. The threat of having to turn down a basset in a shelter, and knowing what the result will be, keeps fundraising at the forefront. Money is always
 an issue, and there is never, ever, enough. So, Washington can save a few more hounds this year. (They have taken overflow from UFBH and they are very grateful to Mary for the help). 
Just asking everyone on the DD--if you love your bassets, please, please donate to your local rescue so more can be saved. Bless the rescue people out there. It is a very difficult job, 24/7, and the basset community's support is truly appreciated, always.
