[Dailydrool] Anal glands and kibble

You know, anal gland issues usually respond very well to adding extra fiber
to your dog's diet. And changing to all kibble does not add more fiber,
just lots more carbs. There are lots of dogs on this list who eat kibble
and have anal gland problems. Since you are already feeding a mix of kibble
and cooked, and they are eating around the kibble, maybe you need to give
them less cooked food (so they have to eat kibble to get full) and make sure
that it's in much smaller pieces all mixed in with the kibble. If they're
going to get full, they have to eat kibble, too. And maybe change the way
you make/serve the cooked food. I feed mine a mix of cooked and kibble,
too, and they always eat it all up because there's not enough cooked to fill
up on, and everything is mixed together.

My cooked food is like a soup that's made in the crock pot, with little
pieces of meat and little pieces of veggies all in a very tasty rice-based
mix. One batch lasts my two girls about 5 or 6 days at two meals a day, and
it will have been made with a pound of cooked ground beef, two cans of
veggies, bullion powder to make it tasty, all added to a base of a cup of
rice and 8 cups of water that has been cooked in the crock pot for 5 or 6
hours. It gets stored in a lidded container in the fridge, and at meal time
I measure out enough for two dogs, heat it up and pour it all over the
kibble and then mix it up so everything gets that good flavor, and they love
it. Once a day I also add a small handful of Fiber One cereal to their
bowl, it adds a lot of fiber and helps keep the poops firm and anal glands
emptied.
