[Dailydrool] dry eye treatment

Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone who has had experience with dry eye in a 
basset could give me an idea of what is involved in treating it.  We are 
considering adding a senior basset to our family, but I am getting 
conflicting info from our vet and from the humane society of exactly 
what would be involved in caring for him.
He, Fred, is a sweet senior who has been at the humane society for a few 
months. He was found as a stray and taken in by a rescue (not a basset 
rescue as far as I can tell). He had a microchip and when they contacted 
the owners, they said they had let him go because they were getting a 
divorce.  He somehow ended up at the shelter (a no kill shelter) and a 
women adopted him.  At that time he had a terrible ear infection, 
including e coli, and dry eye.  The women who adopted him said she 
didn't want to deal with his ears and eyes and returned him.  So now 
he's back and needs a home.
