[Dailydrool] Lisa and Zoe

Yes, Lisa, this is the hardest decision a pet owner faces. And I'm already
in tears for you. I lost two dogs at Christmas last year, and I've got
another on a fast downhill slide - Maggie may be going to the bridge sooner
than I wish too.

I totally agree with what Anita said - dogs in pain tremble. Beethoven did
that with his pancreatitis, Maggie is doing that when the lump on her side
gets bad.

As long as the pain is managed, do whatever you can to help Zoe eat. I went
as far with Beethoven as to feed him spaghetti, or chicken soup, or
whatever I was having for myself. Eventually it was liquid supplements
(like doggie Ensure) and puppy food to keep him eating the last couple of
weeks. I knew it was time when he quit even eating that. Fortunately we
made it through Christmas and the unexpected passing of Dreamer, and I was
able to spend the last week at home with him 24 hours a day. The last days
were tremendously special - and letting Beethoven go was made much easier
by that.

After Dreamer and Beethoven left for the bridge, I made shadow boxes
- their favorite toy, their collar/tags, photos, etc. - and I've already
started on Maggie's box. And I wrote long memorials for them. It helped me
grieve to honor them in this way.

But when it's all said and done, it will never be easy. God bless you for
caring so much.

-- Maggie d'Earest (boy, am I old and snarky...)
-- Leia Round (who, me, pudgy? Nah....)
