When I wrote the note about BHRSC, I didn't make it clear, perhaps, that I do interviews for Tri-State, not BHRSC. But the process of checking out adopters is the same wherever you do it, I'm sure. You want to find out as much as possible about how the animal will be treated in the home.

Most of the folks I interview are great folks, and I let them tell me that. But once in a blue moon, you get someone to whom you'd like to say, "You know those stone basset hounds that are made for yards? That's what you should adopt." Those are sad interviews, but it's good in a way because you have a clear sense of a person's unfitness for adoption. Some interviews just don't give you the information you need, and others are people who are fooling themselves about their home situation--those are the dangerous ones. I'm sure we've all experienced this in rescue.
