[Dailydrool] Basset-friendly flooring

I ripped up my carpet about 3 years ago and got laminate flooring. It's
been great for Fred and Annie. I did get an area rug for in front of the
couch, because they were slipping when they tried to jump up w/o it. Other
than that, no problems!

Given every bit of love the Winchester's had, given the very best
Veteriinary care available, Sister Daisy chose to leave. Debbie would have
ridden the mop and shuffled pills and happily done whatever had to be done
but alas, there was too much there that had gone wrong, too many glitches.
And so the Winchester's did the hardest, most heartbreaking, most loving
and kind thing there is to do: They gave Sister Daisy back to Mother Nature.
I have no words that will help, no wand to wave, no hug that will heal. In
the Great Cosmos there is one less breath today, and at least two more
broken hearts.
Debbie and Wayne: Elwood and Bessie and Jake. Know the Drool community is
here for you anytime you need us, as we have so often counted on you to be
there for us.

MomPerson. Conley,Llewis and Nigel with their heads bowed in respect.
Doc,who will learn.

I've tried using the archives for this topic but can't seem to find
anything, so please excuse me if it's been covered before.

We need to replace ancient wall-to-wall carpeting. I'm looking for
opinions on what would hold up best to bassets. Any thoughts would be
most appreciated. We're considering bamboo.

We have two bassets - Barney our 13 1/2 year old who's retired, and
Hannah Missouri, our brand-new rescue who's been here since Friday.
She's supposed to be 7, but she doesn't act it (or look it in my
estimation). She came from a puppy mill in Missouri, hence the name.

Linda Gardner
Barney (she better not take my dog chair) and Hannah (I can't seem to
figure out when to go out to pee)

Dear Edmond:
The Dashing Bassets are a little concerned for you, buddy. When our mom says
we are "in the doghouse," it's not something good! We hope you aren't in
trouble!

But even worse, mom says, is when the CAT is in the doghouse--and he is so
often, 'cause he does a lot of things that are really bad.

I have been reading and lurking the daily drool for years, but have never
posted.

First, heart healing drool to all those in need and especially to Debbie and
her family over the loss of Sister Daisy. Debbie and Elder Clara have gotten
me thru some rough times and losses.

My question is has anyone on the drool had experience with one of their
babies needing to have a spleen removed? Our Dexter was just diagnosed with
an enlarged spleen and it will probably have to be removed. We are waiting
for his blood work results. Dexter is our senior rescue, and best guess of
age is 9-10 years old. What will he require after the surgery? We have an
excellent vet, but I wanted to see if any of you have had a baby with this
problem and how is life after the surgery going to be for our Dexter.

Thank you, Sherry

Dear Brudder Order of the Evil Basset Empire,

We are celebrating your 6th birthday with you, as well as your OEBE
membership and OEBE Title of Exalted Destroyer of All Things Stuffed.

I think it is most appropriate that you continue to practice the OEBE ways

Soft heartfelt snooter kisses and hugs are being sent over the many miles
across the states from kansas to Virginia after reading about Sister Daisy
making her final trip to the bridge. Elder Clara will be waiting to greet
her with open paws and what a greeting that will be. We know that there is a
very big empty space in your hearts and hopefully with time and good
memories of both Cara and Daisy, that the hole?and hurt will heal. Many
hugs.

I just heard this one yesterday. Sheesh!

TRENTON, N.J.A pet food company is voluntarily recalling dog treats that
could be contaminated with salmonella.

Nature's Recipe announced Saturday the recall of a limited supply of its
"Nature's Recipe Oven Baked Biscuits with Real Chicken," which were
manufactured at its plant in Topeka, Kan., and distributed nationally,
primarily through pet specialty retailers.

Nature's Recipe is a brand of Del Monte Foods.

The company says the product has the potential to be contaminated with
salmonella, which can affect animals eating the products and pose a risk to
humans from handling contaminated pet products.

Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or
bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased
appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Infected, but otherwise healthy pets
can be carriers and infect other animals or humans, warns the Food and Drug
Administration <http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm323823.htm> (FDA). If
your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please
contact your veterinarian.

Nature's Recipe officials say no pet or human illnesses have been reported,
but suggest that pet owners monitor themselves and their dogs for signs of
salmonella and seek medical care if symptoms worsen.

The company says the recall is precautionary, and advises consumers who
bought the recalled treats to discard them immediately.

The recalled treats were sold in 19-ounce stand-up resealable pouches. The
products included in the recall are marked with the Lot Codes 2199TP or
2200TP and a UPC Code of 30521 51549. The pouches also have a "Best If Used
By Date" stamp of "10 11 13" and "10 12 13."

For further information about the recall and for instructions on obtaining
replacement product, consumers can contact the company at its web
site<http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-204_162-57532476/natures-recipe-recalls-dog-

Linda,
Congrats on adding Hannah into your home.
As far as flooring, we have hardwood, which was original with the house, so
it is 50+ years old, and tile. Both hold up well, even with all the
accidents we see here. If you get wood, I am not sure if a sealer is put
on bamboo, but if so, get the highest grade sealer you can. The actual
highest grade is like they use on a basketball court. We did not want
gloss, so got the next one down, which is a satin finish, and it has held
up great.

Debbie,

we are so sorry about Daisy leaving for the bridge, she sure was the
spitting image of Clara they looked like twins, I am sure Clara was
excited
knowing her sister was joining her at the bridge, I know Clara had the
Turkey and Rib Roast in the over ordering the other hounds to prepare a
special
buffet for Daisy's home coming. she is in a better place now and Daisy
and her bestest friend Clara are lying in the sun soaking up the rays.

RIP Daisy we lub you

PERMISSION TO CROSSPOST TO TRUSTED CONTACTS - NO CRAIGSLIST OR FACEBOOK,
PLEASE!!

This is a heartbreaking story. Sophie is blind and her dear friend Blanche
(who is VERY bonded to Sophie) gets very upset is Sophie is not VERY nearby.
The rescue in New Jersey agreed to take them both, and then agreed to take
Flashy, an elder dog who was languishing in the shelter. If you would like
to
help these sweethearts get to rescue and the beginning of their new lives,
let
me know!

As always, the legs are somewhat flexible. Let me know what you can do and
I'll see if I can adjust.

Let's get these sweethearts moved - please crosspost.

Thanks so much -
