[Dailydrool] Happy Birthday Pete

Our beloved Pete, or Peterbilt boy, turns 3 today,with no sign of the 
UPS truck with his big boy brains, we keep hoping!
This is our first adopted puppy, we have always adopted a dog closer to  
1 yr old as opposed to Pete, who we adopted at 4 months.
Aunt Pat called us to tell us she had a puppy, only 3 months old and she 
didn't want to just adopt him out to someone who may decide again they 
can't deal with a puppy, she understood our commitment to this breed and 
our love for bassets.
He had his daddy at the first "look", sitting on the floor at Aunt Pat's 
house,(wabr), turned in to rescue cause he barked all day, caged up, 
can't imagine a puppy being unhappy in a crate 10 hrs a day, but whatever!!
We brought him home after his neuter and our lives have never been the 
same, the love, laughter, tears, totally destroyed house and possessions!!!
He has been our biggest challenge for sure, house training went well 
with Harley to train him, but my gosh, he is our land shark, I watch him 
even now put that snooter to the ground and go in hunting mode!!! He 
snuffled up a penny last night just cause it was there!!
He has already had one surgery to remove carpet that he thought 
apparently tasted good, at least the leather glove came out the other 
end, totally in tact, I have never had a dog destroy so many things in 
such a short amount of time, I don't want to jinx us, but it is slowing 
down a bit.
He has helped heal our hearts after we lost 3 babies in less than a year 
back in 2009, and Droolers so graciously offered their sympathy on such 
a heartbreaking year for us.
He is funny, has a beautiful bay, keeps us on our toes, and generally 
makes our lives happier, although much less moulah in the old wallets, 
of which he has eaten 5 or 6, can't remember!
He is a hit wherever we go, with the extra long ears, and is the clinic 
poster dog where I work, they love it when I bring him in at the end of 
a long week.
Thank you Aunt Pat for trusting us with this beautiful boy, but, I think 
this may be the last "puppy" we adopt from you!!! ;]
