[Dailydrool] Advice please

First of all, Hamlet sends healing drool and help-the-pain drool, to all who need it. It's been a terrible three days since Ophelia went to the Bridge.  The walks in the park are so bitter sweet.  Hammie keeps looking behind us to see where Ophelia is.  The nights are hard too. Ophelia and Hamlet both sleep with me, but Ophelia always demanded lots of petting and special-spot scratching before turning off the lights.  I miss this so much.  Hamlet doesn't want to be bothered.

A couple of interesting things have developed.  My husband and I have said, our next basset family member would come from a rescue.  When Ophelia left, I said no more girl bassets, no one could ever be like my Ophelia.  The way Hamlet is around other dogs, we thought we'd need to get a puppy. I'm afraid he'd never accept a adult to the family.

Well, not too far from us a rescue has six, little girl, basset puppies.  Pretty unheard of for this part of California.  And then I saw on PetFinder, a two year old girl,  right in the area.  A rescue has her, they adopted her from animal control.  Her owner said they no longer have time for her.   I know it pi**es me off to.  Her name is LuLu. I'm drawn to her picture.  I know she'll never be Ophelia, but puppies will find homes, I'm sure, but who knows what will happen to LuLu.

The issue is Hamlet. Will he accept LuLu?  Am I moving too fast? The house is so lonely for me without Ophelia, but am I being selfish where Hamlet is concerned?  I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I've been contacted by the LuLu's rescue. They've invited me to come and meet her.

Hi Droolers
Morse is suffering badly with allergies at the moment on the insides of his legs, looking very sore and red - have tried all sorts of medications, shampoo, creams, gels etc with little benefit, now trying raw diet with some effect now and then.? Has anyone tried a dermatology review in this sort of case? there is a dermatologist that visits the vet surgery and I am wondering if that would be a good option.

This is Paulie.  I did it.  I caught the squirrel.  I was out in the yard supervising the he-slave getting the garden ready when I saw it run past.  The big dog (a bull mastiff) knocked him off the fence and I had my treasure. My evil dad made me give it back.  No fair dad I caught him for me!

Took my girls for a long ride on Tuesday,  beautiful day, wish I could
walk them,  but like Bev,  I have a really bad knee that needs to be  replaced,
bwahahah  any ways, I wanted to do something special for my  girls, they
love going in the SUV, we went down to the Maumee river , it is the  great
Walleye  run and there are more fishermen than you can count. so on  our way
home  I see this women walking TWO  beautiful Golden  Retrievers,   the dark
mahogany color, just beautiful,  this is  where it gets good,  they both
have harness on and she has both dogs  pulling  a   BABY STROLLER   with a baby
in it,  I was like,  What the hell.
I had to drive around the block to get another look , couldn't believe I
was seeing this.  No leash on the dogs and she did NOT  have her hands  on
the stroller.  so OK,    what IF ???????  what if  they see another dog, or if
another dog takes after them, or the dogs see  a squirrel a cat, or a
rabbit they are hunting  dogs  ! ???????    HUH ??????  I don't care how well
trained  they are,  she had a real live BABY  in the stroller !!!!!!,  I  had
to come home and drink a glass of wine to calm down,    It's  a  good thing
that  I am half crippled now , or, more than likely  would have made a scene,
then again, it might just be me that has an issue with  this ?????????   I
admit,  I don't have well trained dogs, with  my bad knees,  bad back & MS
I fear every time I take my girls  out for a walk that I will end up on the
ground.  maybe I need
granny Gerts life alert !    Hey,   that rhymes  !   ha ha  so now I'm a
Poet !   YEA !

Last night, a tornado hit our home and several  others in our town in
Arkansas.  We lost our 50' front deck and the deck  roof, part of the house roof,
the fireplace chimney and the inspector said that  our side deck is ready
to fall down and will probably pull the back deck with  it.  There's so much
damage that I couldn't begin to list it all but it was  sad to see lovely
old trees that are blooming uprooted or split in half.

Thankfully, everyone is safe.

Marlene while none of my dogs could be trusted pulling a stroller (or
anything else) including Doc (squirrels!!!) there are dogs (most of them
being Goldens) who are absolutely trustworthy, believe it or not.
Consider guide dogs, service dogs, etc, who have to have their prey drive
under control.
I have a friend with a Golden like that, absolutely dependable no matter
what.
As I said, none of MY dogs does or ever has met qualifications for that
kind of dependability, but there are dogs out there that do.

Archie & I want to thank all you wonderful droolers who sent ideas for relieving his arthritis pain. I feel more confident now, we'll keep trying the tramadol and Rimadyl until they don't work or make him sick, then the Medcam (I used the liquid on Elsa and it worked good but it's so expensive $$$) and maybe the acupuncture. I quit putting it into his food and he's eating better now, (Duh!). Weiners are one the best inventions ever thought up, but then peanut butter is good too.I also rearranged his stair-step to the bed so he has the dresser on one side and the bed on the other, in case he leans? too far either way.

Our best to all the DD bunch and their tail waggers.
Judy & Archie in Fresno, Ca (as soon as I kick this virus, I'll catch everyone up on Archie's new sister.)

I guess our boys are strange. Both had to take Tramadol after recent surgeries. No problem what so ever with eating the pill straight with their meal. Never one complaint or incident. They eat raw food so maybe it just all gets down in one bite.

Hi all, it?s the clueless momPerson here,
?
I am confused.? Clueless actually.? Here is my story.
?
Last night I went to the back of the house to take a shower.? LuLu followed me.?
She arranged herself on the dress pillows on my bed.? She inquired if I wouldn?t
rather snuggle her than take a shower.? I decided she was right.? I snuggled up
with LuLu on the quilt and dress pillows for a while.? Then, I firmly told her
that she would have to hold down those pillows without any further assistance
from me as I really wanted to shower and brush my teeth.? And I took my leave.
?
Afterwards I went back down the hall to watch a bit of the news, turn on the
dishwasher, and say goodnight to Greg.? The girls were already in bed.? Snoopy
followed me back to the bedroom.? LuLu allowed me to move her over onto Gregs
pillows (she was smack in the middle).? Snoopy climbed up on the bed and curled
up near my feet.? A little while later Greg came to bed and LuLu allowed him to
move her back into the center and he turned off the light.? Gracie was AWOL.?
Now here is where it gets interesting ??..
?
A few minutes later we were all sound asleep in the dark house.? Some time later
Snoopy let out a sharp bark.? It was a HEY bark.? Just one.? I turned on the
light.? Snoopy was laying on his side at my feet.? Gracie has snuck up onto the
bed without waking anyone up.? She then slunk over to my side and down at the
foot of the bed and arranged herself so that she was back to back with Snoopy.?
You couldn?t even fit a piece of paper in between them anywhere from their head
to their butt, she had molded herself to Snoopy.? When I turned on the light she
looked at me like ?. what?????? Snoopy looked over his shoulder at her,
harmphed, lay his head back down, and went back to sleep.? And I turned out the
light.
?
WHAT????? What just happened here????? Labs only lay down touching other dogs
that they LIKE.? They ONLY lay down like THAT, molded to the other dog, when
they are bonded.? PERIOD.? Snoopy and LuLu don?t even lay like that.? Snoopy and
LuLu might lay butt to butt.? And Gracie and LuLu lay down all the time
touching, or with butts pressed into each other.? But not like this.? I thought
Snoopy and Gracie had a strained relationship ?.. she pushes his buttons all the
time and every once in a while she goes to far and he lets her have it.? What
the heck??
?
Anybody know??
?
More later from the ever clueless momPerson with weird bassets ??..

Our dear, recently departed Mabel was on Rimadyl, half a tablet once a
day, for at least four years and we didn't see any side effects.

Gotta agree with Bev.? My Sugar Magnolia was convinced she was a better mom then
I was.? I'll never forget the day a lady we didn't know tried to reach into the
baby carriage and touch my newborn daughter.? Sweet Maggie shoved her to the
ground.? Never said a word, just shoved her down.? Maggie had positioned herself
between the lady and the carriage, so the lady reached around her great big
head.? Maggie tried to push the ladies hand away with her snooter but the lady
persisted.? So Maggie pushed her away (and down, right on her rump).? I didn't
want the stranger to touch my baby but I didn't have the nerve to push her
away.? Maggie sure did.

Maggie played chase with my kids, my neighbors kids, all kinds of kids.? From
crawling and barely toddling to fast and furious 5 year olds.? She never knocked
a kid down, not ever.? One time the neighbors yellow lab pup came into the yard
and joined in the fun and accidently knocked a 2 year old over.? Everyone
froze.? Maggie jumped on the pup and stood on him until I came out and picked
the pup up and took him home.

Sugar Magnolia could have pulled a stoller more safely then I could have pushed
one.? On the other hand, I wouldn't trust Gracie for half a second.? LuLu .....
actually, LuLu could be trusted, she'd do just fine.? Snoopy, not a chance in
bleep.

Dale posted recently about "coprophagia deterrence" (level 3) by 21st century. I got some at PetSmart on Tuesday, and Charlie and Tina are each getting it daily. Charlie is the poop-eater, with Tina indulging occasionally. It's that darn wonderful kibble we feed, tastes good for a long time!

Anyway, we've had no luck yet, but they say it takes a week to work. There have been no side-effects either, both have normal digestion, and normal poops (yummy!)

If you will take a little taste of Archie's peanut butter that has Rimadyl
and Tramadol crushed up in it, you will see why he won't take it -- evil,
bitter, nasty tasting.  SOD & Boswellia works well for arthritis in animals.
Go to California Veterinary Supply (calvetsupply.com)  and order TABLETS
ONLY, do not order the powder.  Powder is cheaper but smells incredibly
strongly of apples and the dogs hate it.  Tablets only.   Start him on 3
tablets in the morning and 3 in the evening and see if it helps.  My little
tiny Holly Dolly gets 2 tablets twice each day in her food.  Our Sister
Gracie took 3 or 4 tablets twice a day, depending on the season of year.
You'll have to play around a little with the dosage until you see what works
for Archie.  You can't buy SOD & Boswellia at a pharmacy, they'll tell you
they have it and sell you Boswellia herb, which works for humans but not for
animals.
