My two older hounds, Hamlet and Ophelia (ATB) used to sing together as part of the evening rumble. Hamlet would sing a tune of his own making, very melodic and over a wide range of notes. Ophelia was the base - a deep rhythmic bark. Ophelia would stand on the floor next to the couch and Hamlet would lay out on the couch with his head hanging off the edge to meet her head while they sang. It was truly marvelous and I have not heard Hamlet sing since we lost Ophelia.
My youngest, Daisy, is 6 months. She has a very screechy squawky loud puppy bark. I was complaining about it to my sister who suggested that I prompt her to howl to see if the tone would change. So I began the howling and she was quick to join. She threw her head back, made the perfect furry circle with her little mouth and let out a fabulous AROOO. Except that IT WAS ABOUT 3 OCTAVES TOO HIGH! Haha Oh well, it was still pretty cute and maybe with time.....Fortunately she seldom barks.
Lucy, the middle hound does not howl. she barks mostly at critters she is chasing.
