[Dailydrool] Dailydrool Digest, Vol 279, Issue 1

To:
Cyndi and John Grove
Honey Bea and kitties Holly Noel and James (James loved being next to Sara
Lea all the time)

Hi, I'm Leftenant Lea Pierce, Houndslave since last August 18 to Admiral
JED (Just Enough Drool) "Snatch" Basset, commissioned by the benevolent
Golden Gate Basset Rescue. My first post.

Adm. JED is sending copious drool to your family and I hold you deep in my
heart during this time of tremendous loss. I lost my first basset (Percy,
aka Sir Percival, aka Gumby) last year, and my mates at GGBR (especially
Nancy and Judy) consoled me through that awful time. They told me over and
over "Percy will send his replacement." And he did. Adm. JED took command
last August and it's been pretty darned smooth sailing since then (it helps
that Sonoma County is land-locked, and we don't suffer too many squalls
amidst the vineyards).

Sir Percy's death was a shock, too. He literally died while I was working.
The only thing I can say is that, as much of a shock as it is, your Sara
crossed the Rainbow Bridge quickly. She is there, waiting, with my Percy
and your other two furkids who crossed over this year, and all the
wonderful furkids (skydivers, pilots, landlubbers and sailors alike) who
have gone ahead to greet us when we get there.

When Lady Di was killed, Queen Elizabeth said something like, the price of
great love is great pain. The measure of your grief is the measure of your
love. Sara had a great life, thanks to you. I know she gave more than she
received--all of these hounds seem to do that, just naturally. But you gave
a great life to a magnificent hound of utter courage and pure love.

The drool of precious memories to your entire clan...

Leftenant Lea Pierce
Houndslave to Adm. JED "Snatch" Basset
Admiralty of Sonoma County
By order of Hounds Majesty's Service, Golden Gate Basset Rescue
