Last week at the dog park with the 4 bassets, I met a woman with a playful lab. She and I got talking about rescues. She told me of a friend who was waiting to adopt a basset because he really missed his old basset. She told me that he had gone through the basset rescue, had his home visit, but didn't hear back. When I heard his name I was surprised that I had done his home visit. I contacted the coordinator who remembered him well, but that he hadn't replied to her emails. I suspect a spam folder problem or some such issue. So here we have a good home awaiting a basset. I felt sad. Then yesterday, after grocery shopping, I put some money in the Salvation Army bucket. When I got to my car I found a $20 bill by the back tire. I picked it up and ran it back to the Salvation Army bucket. That felt good. Then today, I got a call from our pet store. The owner knows my bassets and that we are rescue fans. He told me that a local rescue group was there (not a breed specific group) and that they had a three year old female sweet basset and asked if I knew anyone looking for one. I immediately thought of the guy whose home visit I completed. I searched through my email (it was more than a year ago) and found his number. I called him and told him about her. He went to the store and fell in love, then filled out an adoption application. Hearing that felt WONDERFUL.

Happy Howlidays
