Muriel's post rang a bell for me. Not a Basset bell, but a not eating and hepatitis in an animal bell. At his age 5, our cat simply stopped eating and started dropping weight. He was diagnosed with hepatic lipidosis (basically cirrhosis), which was actually caused by his refusal to eat (which in turn was probably stress related--invasion of hoardes of Christmas relatives, including unruly young children). Lynx was on death's door and also had to have a stomach tube put in, through which we injected some sort of special liver failure fortified food each day. Lynx was home and wore a T-shirt to keep him from pulling out the tube. I think he had the feeding tube for about three weeks before it was removed. and guess what? He made a full recovery and lived another healthy five years before succumbing to a totally unrelated malady. so I am optimistic for Barney, but wonder if there is more that needs doing? Gallbladder removal? Stomach tube? Insist that your vet stays on top of this and best wishes.
