Glad to see that Bev emphasized the need for Basset ear protection in
bitter cold and snow. As stated, they are loaded with blood vessels and
CAN get frostbitten at the tips, especially, if exposed too long. Also
the boy-parts. I have heard of frostbite there if allowed to stay and
play too long in snow. Dachshunds are at risk, too, for same obvious reason.
Boots are an almost impossible solution, and not imperative. What is
important, if the dog is walked in areas that have been salted, is to
wash the feet when back inside. If salt not an issue, they usually will
take care of their paws themselves -- licking and cleaning out ice
clumps, if any.
Just my opinion, Riche
