[Dailydrool] Merry Christmas to Christmas-celebrating people and houndies

Vernon Q Basset, Paddi B Basset, Tiger and Clio that cats, and Raphael,
Santos and Ziggy the alpacas, plus assorted humans, join me in wishing a
very Merry Christmas to those who celebrate, and the most wonderful 2014 to
all.

We've had an up and down year here, drawing to a close with my
mother-in-law's funeral today. Vernon Q missed her when she had to go into
a nursing home this summer -- she'd been with us for four years. Through
all those years, Vernon Q felt the day incomplete if he did not spend at
least three or four hours sitting on her lap. Mother-in-law --
approximately 110 pounds, and partially paralyzed from a stroke. Vernon q
-- the most graceful 60 pound lap dog you could ever hope to meet. I swear
he is completely boneless when he gently arrives on your knee. He held up
her book, kept her warm and was a complete gentleman about not eating her
snacks.

We're seeing Vernon Q himself slowing down a good bit -- he's nearing 14.
So this Christmas we'll be cuddling him a bit more, and perhaps turning a
blind eye when he hops up on the dining room table. Wait a minute. No, we
won't be doing that!

Do enjoy the season, everyhound and human. The Drool is one of my daily
joys, hard times and all.
