[Dailydrool] chiming in about the cats

We had a lab named Sugar Magnolia (sweet maggie) who loved every living thing
that ever graced the face of the earth. Including cats. I have pictures of her
snuggled up with a 2 lbs neighbors cat (she was 120 lbs, just enormous). Anyway
the neighbor over the back fence and over one (catti corner) rented out their
house to a family with a cat. The cat would hop up onto the fence and down into
our fully fenced backyard.

She would lure my sweet Maggie over there and once Maggie was within range she
would lash out and slash her open. One time she ripped open her chest horribly,
another time she got her in the face. I SAW it happen and I called animal
control and I was told the cat was within it's rights and I had to control my
OWN DOG in her OWN YARD. Apparently this county has some kind of ordinance
where cats are allowed to roam free to compat rodents. BULL CRAP. These cats
might go after a mouse here or there but no domestic cat is going to take on a
raccoon or a roof rat. I was SO upset and then my mother (may her memory be for
blessing) told me a few preventatives.

1) You can buy crystalized tiger urine at the pet store. We sprinkled it along
the top of the fence and around the edge of the properly. Maggie didn't like it
much but it kept most critters the heck out of our yard.

2) We buried orange peels in flower beds where cats liked to poop. They don't
like the smell of the decomposing peels and they won't dig near them to go poop.

These worked for us. My husband still hates cats though after all that.

keep cats from coming around.
