My late hound Maggie had problems with fungal infections in her ears.  
We lived in Baton Rouge and I thought it was endemic.

Her immediate successor, Myrtle, has had few ears problems, but our 
rescue, Mabel, tends towards them.  Myrtle's eyes are chronically red 
while Mabel's are clear.  I think the climate here in Kentucky's 
BlueGrass is better for them.

Ya never know.
