[Dailydrool] Pancreatitis

Our dog, Pixel, soon to be 13 had this awful disease almost three years
ago. She had a flare up about a year and a half ago. Since her first bout
she has been on Royal Canin Gastrointestinal, a tablespoon of fat free
yogurt in the morning with her food and a little baked chicken breast (no
skin) with her dinner.

She now has it again. Her lipase is elevated and the SNAP test for
pancreatitis is positive. All her other bloodwork is normal. An
ultrasound today showed either a thickened pancreas or a mass. There is no
way to tell other than a biopsy and we agree with our vet that a biopsy can
be dangerous and either way she will be treated the same:

Small meals 3-4 times a day, pepsid a half hour before, flagyl and a
pancreatic enzyme. Another ultrasound will be done down the line when he
feels enough time has elapsed.

Our vet of over 30 years has been wonderful and accurate with all
diagnoses. He is leaning toward a thickened pancreas rather than a mass.

Her stomach is not painful, she is not vomiting, no diarrhea and she does
eat.

We have just canceled a cruise in Norway and Iceland as we will not leave
her now.

Any advice or similar experience will be appreciated.
