Talking about Doggie Dementia, Though she was not a Basset she lived with
Paddie and The Country Bumpkins. She was a Springer Spaniel. I got a call to
go to town and go pick her up. She was in the back of a pick up that was
speeding through town. They hit a dip in the road pretty fast, she flew out
of the truck, went skidding across the road hit the curb and got up. When I
got to her she was wondering aimlessly. I brough her home and we named her
Grandma Dog. Grandma Dog had Doggie Dementia I am sure of it. She would
sleep all day and many times the little ones or Paddie or one of the other
Bassets would go get her up and take her to the food and water bowl. I do
not know how they knew she did not eat but they did and looked after her.
Always as the evening was falling I knew she was sun downing. She would walk
and walk and walk run into chairs, hit the wall and just stand there lost
and confused. We would redirect her only to have her get hung up in another
spot. I knew she was old and I knew she did not have much time left. We were
moving to San Angelo and by the time we got ready to go she had lost all
control of her bowls and Urin. My friend Mary took her to help her to the
bridge as I was working and I told her I tought it might be time. She always
said lets see what Doc says and we will go from there. I knew to in my heart
the move would be to much for her. Mary got her to Doc and they helped her
to the Bridge. Doc guess her age to be at least 18. I had rescued her 3
years before she was helped to the bridge. I do miss that old girl and
trying to keep her out of running into walls and getting stuck. But I know
to that we gave her the best of the rest of her life and she was very muched
loved by Paddie and The Country Bumpkins.
So Yes I do believe they get Dementia and I do believe they Sun Down as
well.
Vi, Trapper and The Country Bumpkins
