Nobody knows what causes bloat. It might be this or it may be that but it's
fast and deadly and that and symptoms are what you need to know.
My dogs eat 3 small meals a day, the one thing that I believe might help.
Even so, both Nigel and llewis have had pre-bloat symptoms that required
Veterinary assistance.

I feed in crates and there they stay until ----oh dear.
Until I let them out.Sometimes it is 45 minutes and sometimes a half hour
but rarely less. And then they may go out and play.

I am also of the opinion that if your older dog bloats you need to do a
thorough workup, because I think it is often a secondary problem to
something else. This is based on the number of elderly dogs that bloated but
turned out to have something even more critical wrong with them when I
worked at the Vetspital.

My advice: when in doubt feed Gas-X or something equal to it and call your
Vet. Better to be wrong than wait too long when you are right.
