[Dailydrool] Fireworks and Fear

I personally have tried virtually everything on the market at one time or
another and found, sorry, 98% of them to be basically useless on my
terrified dog.
Cooper, my previous Belgian was especially terrified of thunder, fireworks
and other sudden noises (dropped tables at dog shows)
The only things I found to be helpful were a Thunder Shirt, Melatonin, and
Composure. (Not all at once.) You do, however, have to follow directions
and start all of them BEFORE the big storm hits. My problem was I kept
missing.
Usually a dog afraid of thunder will let you know well ahead of time that
the weather is coming.Cooper would become unusually restless, drooly,
clingy, panting. That was maybe 4 or 5 HOURS before the storm would hit.
Rescue Remedy never did a thing.
None of the stuff I tried worked for very long.
By the way, I have not yet had a Basset who was bothered by the weather,
including the tornado that went over the house while we all crouched on the
floor with me trying to shield the dogs with my body. (It's a miracle I
didn't crush them.) In fact Zelda, who was still with us at that time,
insisted on watching the storm out the front window. She and Mr. Biskit.
What a pair.
This does not mean it won't work for others, just that it didn't do much
for us.
