Well, we got good news and bad news at the vet on Friday. Browyn's ear
infection is completely gone! One of the things I like at my vet's office
is he has a video earscope. So, he sees what I see. He also saves all the
images of the ears and puts in what we had used to treat the ear. Yes, it
took four treatments to completely clear up the ear, but we could see it
was improving by leaps and bounds with each treatment.

I know lots of people have been wondering how often to clean ears. I clean
ears once a week on Monday. If I get a lot of wax, gunk, dirt, then that
dog has ears cleaned on Thursday. If they are still nasty I clean them
again on Saturday. At this point I am probably using foaming ear cleaner.
I love it it breaks up all the gunk in the ear and gets it up where you
can get it out. Depending on what it looks and smells like, I very likely
am making an appointment with the vet. No, I don't use blue ear cleaner.
I have it on hand and in the right situation, I would use it. It is just
that all three of my hounds have allergies. Usually gross ears are
accompanied with bleeding ulcers in the ear. If I had sores like that and
you poured alcohol with boric acid on them, I would never let you touch me
again. We have learned we can't use any products with alcohol on Bugsey
anyway. He has extremely sensitive skin from the deep reaches of the
earth. The DH always says he inherited my skin. While it technically
isn't possible, we both have the same skin problems. I will say it gives
me an edge when dealing with his skin problems, and I feel his pain.

Beauford was the bad news, but it could have been terrible, so I will take
it. He had this nasty lump/sore between his lip and chin. It was getting
worse with my home first aid. So, he went in on Friday. The vet stuck a
needle upwards into the sore. Oh it looked painful, but I was putting on
my brave face because Beauford is my drama queen. Tons of blood came out
of the needle. You should have seen the looks on the vet tech's and vet's
faces. I hadn't really been worried until then. They thought it was
cancer, but the cytology was full of white blood cells. It is a good old
fashioned abscess. He is now on Cipro and I have to put this high powered
antibiotic ointment on it 3x a day. He got this from running across the
deck. Browyn jumped in front of him and he slide. It was skinned up, but
then got infected.

I am making jam/jelly just as fast as I can with all the apples on the
trees this year. The hounds have discovered how to get into my inside
stash of apple and steal one and eat the whole thing.

The good news is they are producing tons of drool for the people and hounds
on the drool that need it.
