Yesterday we went to the CBHR Waddle in Kure Beach, NC. For us, this is
the next town. Except for the fact that it's over a river. Normally the
CBHR Waddle is in Charleston, SC. The 3 bassets had their first ferry ride
on the way home and slept through the entire experience.
This was our third waddle. The first while while we lived in CT and it was
just over the Mass. border. Gallagher was just a buppy then and threw up
when he saw all the bassets. He's always been a bit skittish and shy. Our
second was in Charleston 3 years ago. Gallagher marched through the parade
at great strut speed. MacKenzie and Poppy (ATB) were very into the crowd.
Gallagher, not so much. This was Guinness's first waddle. We always
consider Guinness, the little guy. I forget how big my 3 are until they
get with other bassets. Gallagher is just huge, but well proportioned.
Everything about him is big. His paws are huge. His ears were the
longest ones there. But what surprised me most was that he appears to have
overcome his shyness. He finally caught on that other people can give him
belly rubs. Guinness had a great time. He ran in the "derby", almost lost
his jockey, but finished well ahead of Gallagher and another basset. He's
a very friendly guy and had great fun. MacKenzie is big, but not in a good
way. She is a love bug and was thrilled to get lots of attention. We've
struggled to get her weight down, for the last several years. She eats
less. Is fed the lightest food we can find. She walks every day (a lot)
and can jump on any piece of furniture. Seeing her next to all the other
thin bassets was just sad.
Is it time for more blood work?? How do I stop the snack man?
