We have half hardwood and half wall to wall.   I love the real hardwood.   Some are oak and relatively new.   Some are rain forest hardwood (mahogany) from 50 years ago.   The hardwoods are sealed  and clean up is a breeze

For the rugs we have a steamer.  If someone is sick and pukes or whatever I pretreat and then steam.  Again no biggie.  As the folks get older the smooth surface be it tile or wood causes slips falls and injuries for two leggers and bassets alike
