dixie went for her follow up app't with the eye specialist and the news was
not that good.......her cataracts were removed and the lens was placed in
her right eye but not her left, so her left eye had good distance vision
but not close. sometime between her last visit 2 weeks ago she had a
retinal detachment in her right eye (we were hoping this eye would
compensate for the near vision). she sees only light and dark in the right
eye now, but is not in pain. The vet offered surgery but said because of
the poor breeding, and the smaller than usual lens he wasn't even sure the
retinal specialist could attach it. we opted not to do surgery. the
initial cataract surgery did give dixie better vision than she was born
with, and unless she develops glaucoma in the right eye and/or she is in
pain we will leave her be. i hate the people that bred to make money
despite all the poor genes........and yet even though we have only had her
since september she has captured our hearts.........the good news is the
cone is off, and we will be boarding them soon for a week when we go on
vacation,......we put off her spay to have the emergency eye surgery, and
they are boarding at the vet so that we are assured their meds will be
given on time........they said they will do the spay while she is there so
they can monitor her........with mixed emotions i am grateful
...........nancy, einstein and dixie
