I think that bassets are secretly, time pieces.

8:00 AM time to wake the lazy slaves for walk and breakfast
5:00 PM time to walk the slaves before dinner
7:00 PM. Time for the basset 500
8:00 PM time for the last pee walk.  Out the kitchen door around to the front porch.
8:05 PM. Gallagher goes to the master bedroom.  He lets the slaves sleep there.
2:00 AM time for MacKenzie to go out the dog door to patrol the back yard

EVERY DAY the same

Remaining time is reserved for napping.  Being a timekeeper is exhausting work.
