[Dailydrool] sebaceous cysts

I am not sure whether this is really the case or something I dreamed up
myself, but hounds-- Bassets, Bloodhounds and Beagles in particular, have
more oil in their coats than a lot of other breeds, giving rise to that
interesting "houndy" smell. Originally it probably protected them from bad
weather while out on the hunt. If you read the standard the coat is
described as "hard"
This in turn leads to sebaceous cysts (I think. Remember this is my theory)
and some dogs get them and some do not. Nigel was covered: Llewis has tons
(they were littermates) Conley has a skin tag but no cysts. My Belgians
would die of embarrassment, but their coats are not nearly as oily.
Anyway this is my reasoning about the cysts and why I think you cannot
really prevent them. You can treat them, but they are a fact of life with
these hounds.
