Since Riche can source ACL surgery for $500, Houndservant humbly submits
that Droolers should declare her Vetspistal Hound Dog Thailand, and develop
medical tourism for Hounds & Houndservants. Plenty of people go to Thailand
for affordable surgery, etc. (elective); why not tramp (or in HMS Santa
Rosa's case, sail) to Riche's Port O Call?

With the savings, one orthopaedic surgery in, oh, California, could pay for
the trip AND save money.

A thought.

From the HMS Santa Rosa Sickbay:

Foxy the Foster (1st Lady of the HMS Santa Rosa) has been blessed to
receive angel funding from a GGBR supporter and is in the process of
getting completely tested for allergies, etc.

Here is what Houndservant (who is studying to be a Hound Allergist PA,
apparently) has learned:

1. Foxy's allergies are probably 3-part: flea, food, environmental.
2. Foxy was put on double flea medication. The monthly Advantage+, and 2
weeks later (monthly) the Comfortis pill, which kills all fleas within 6
hours. Houndservant does not think Foxy had fleas, per se, but Allergy Vet
said flea effluvia is everywhere in California, so doubled down on killing
the pestiferous creatures. Hounds scratching themselves around the middle
and lower are chasing flea irritation, Allergy Vet informed NCO
Houndservant.
3. Foxy was switched to Royal Canin Rabbit & Sweet Potato kibble--AND
NOTHING ELSE, NO NOT A BITE! (She is unhappy when she smells anything else;
it is torture for a hound not to get a nibble now and again...) 6 weeks
worth+ to make sure any other cruddy food is out of her system.
4. She is on 2 tabs of Temeril-P every other day.
5. A medicated "mousse" called Douxa is rubbed on her belly every day by
Houndservant. She hates it. This is to beat back a bacterial infection that
was taking hold on her belly. Looked like red rash. It works. Her belly is
currently beautiful.

This protocol
to be followed for 6 weeks (4 weeks have passed). Then,

A. Foxy will be switched from Temeril-P to Alpoquel for 2 weeks so that the
prednisone in Temeril-P can be flushed out of her furry body.
B. Foxy will then get skin tests (60 skin pricks!).

The idea is to try to see how she does on Rabbit food (haha) and double
flea killer stuff, then test for external allergies. And then come up with
shots or whatever.

So--Foxy's current condition:

She is not scratching much.
Her belly has cleared up. Her coat looks very good (she is also getting
1-2 baths a week using the Douxa shampoo, which the Allergy Vet says is
gentle enough it can be used daily. A big bottle was about $20 online.)

Houndservant, however, is still with bated breath, wondering when the other
shoe will drop. It will be helpful to get the results of the allergy skin
test.

Houndservant
offers this information as descriptive, not prescriptive. Allergy Vet
says that her allergies are progressive and she will need to be fussed with
her entire life.

Houndservant is rather amazed (but probably not really surprised) that
hound allergies are so gosh-darned complicated.

Houndservant is VERY VERY GRATEFUL that a donor stepped up to underwrite
complete treatment for First Lady. Foxy's a great hound dog, and relatively
young--about 5-1/2. Knowing what is really UP with this dog will make her
easier to place in a forever home. And make way for the next crew
assignment.

Over and out from the Sickbay of the HMS Santa Rosa, permanently docked at
the Whine Country Spa & Hotdog Factory.
