[Dailydrool] chatting with former Basset owners who did not become Basset lovers

Had an interesting experience today. a look behind the curtain. I was on duty all day at my quilt guild's every other year quilt show. Half the time I was a greeter|: "welcome, do have a program and a ballot to vote for best in show! and watch your step at the entrance to the building" and half the time I was in the auditorium answering questions about quilting techniques and specific quilts in the show.

One of my own quilts on display was a "family story" memory quilt, (see my website, vlbzwick.com, go to bed quilts, then click on the one that says 'family memories). On this quilt are depicted two Basset hounds, our beloved Bo and Harley. Well, as I worked the quilt room, occasionally people asked about this particular quilt, and some of those who asked had their own "stories" to tell. Of the sort, "Oh, we once had a Basset hound....."

Yikes. the other side of Basset love. " We have never met a more stubborn animal". "that dog could escape from any enclosure". "wow, you couldn't turn your back on that dog without it's doing exactly what you had forbidden". "Leave that dog alone, and would it ever howl!" "Man, those dogs stink!" "How could you tolerate those dogs?!!

LOL. As the daily drool website says, "Basset hounds aren't for everyone." I love 'em.

One more day to quilt show participation and I can retreat to a nice warm bed filled with stinky, stubborn bassets. Hallelujah. Val
