I'm in. I don't know Debbie, and only skim the Drool every day, but very seldom read all the contents. However, I've been reading about Debbie, and have been saying a silent prayer for her everyday I open the Drool. I'll be praying for her tonight at 9:30 and hopefully so will everyone else on the Drool. God bless you Debbie, and Rusty and I are praying for your healing.

I am so saddened to hear about Debbie....The girls and I are sending loads of drool....I personally have not had to fight that dreaded disease, but hubby has and has beaten the odds the first time and so far he is beating the odds the second time....I know how hard the fight is for my dear brother is battling too.....wishing all the drool we can muster for you Debbie and all who need. Wouldn't it be wonderful if all of the drool could cure cancer?? Well if we believe just maybe it will !
Sending love...Emily and the Gareis girls...Maggie, Bailey, LaVerne & Gracie

This is probably a dumb question Marlene, but do you give Maggie probiotics?
Not just acidophilus, but a good quality probiotic formula from a health
food store? It might help the loose stools and digestive problems.

Ok well... here's the deal.
Yesterday one of the dogs said something to me and I understood it
perfectly and I answered the dog and he went off wagging his tail and was
fine.
I am not used to having the dogs actually SPEAK to me. I mean it has
happened maybe 3 or 4 times before, not with this dog but with Zelda and
Mr. Cooper sir, and Mitchell.
This was notaBasset so you know right away who it was and while the dogs do
not speak aloud there is no question in my mind who it is that I am hearing.
I had been training Mitchell (this is not right: he trained me) to track
and we went to the Nationals one yr and I entered the TD test. He was
impeccable. He was accurate, fast and thorough. At one point we descended a
hill into a small, watery ditch. He seemed to be right on track (no pun
intended) giving all the signs-- nose down, tail up, pulling-- but it was
watery and I said aloud
"Mitchell: are you SURE?"
In tracking, you never doubt your dog. NEVER. And this is all true. He
stopped dead. He turned and looked at me. And he said "Are you kidding? Yes
it's right." and he went back to tracking and he was right, of course.
His tone was not angry but aggrieved. "After all this, how could she doubt
my ability to do this?" was what he conveyed.
Zelda, before we knew she had this weird cancer in her head told me one day
her head hurt. That's all: "Head hurts" she said.
So a number of weeks ago Doc went to the Gallery with me and before I could
react he had done the unthinkable and lifted his leg on a corner where
there was a painting. He missed most of the painting, which we cleaned off.
But I really read him the riot act and it was a while before I trusted him
in there again, and I still watch. So for several weeks he was quiet and
subdued altho he is a nut case for Pat, who is usually there. (She being an
animal magnet).
Yesterday as I was re-arranging my table I had noticed that Doc was
especially bouncey and happy and grinning a lot, more than usual. He came
over and sat, watching me. I looked at him. And he said "I was afraid you
might not let me keep coming here with you." And without thinking I said
"Of course you may!" and he wagged his tail and wandered off.
I have no communication skills with these dogs. If I did I would figure out
why they act the way they do at shows.
But I swear to you this happened. Not out loud. Just there in my head was
the voice. And the really weird thing is, It doesn't even surprise me
anymore.

OK Gang! The Shepherd Group in Florida won the last Weekly Award in the
current Shelter Challenge. Suncoast is currently in second place, which
puts us in line for the $1000.00 State prize.
However, we currently have only a lead of .35% over the next rescue on the
list -- NOT MUCH!!! I don't know if you've noticed - but it has been slowly
dwindling the past couple of weeks as well.
Plus, we have no idea if the Shepherd Group will switch affiliations to
another rescue in the State - now that they've won the Weekly Prize. <
remember what happened in Ohio >
As they are currently well behind the overall leaders - it would not be a
bad move on their part.
Please vote religiously!!! The next week or so should give us a better idea
as to the likelihood of a win.

The Shepherd group in first place for FL has won the weekly prize this
week, so is no longer eligible for the state prize. Therefore, Suncoast
Basset Rescue is in first place for the FL prize. HOWEVER...the group which
has been right behind Suncoast is making up ground and is poised to take
the lead away. We need to step it up if we want Suncoast to win the money.
I am happy when our basset groups win ANY of the prizea (100 vaccines is
nothing to sneeze at!), but that $1000 prize is awully nice. Let's not get
complacent. Vote as many ways as possible!
I had mixed emotions to hear that Debbie has opted for hospice care instead
of curative care, but I totally get it and, as one Drooler noted, it's not
necessarily a death sentence. I volunteer for our local hospice group and
they do wonderful work. Debbie, understandably, is tired and discouraged
and hospice can absolutely make her feel better. They can also help Wayne
cope with the grueling challenges of being a caregiver. It's entirely
possible that, if she starts feeling better, Debbie will get the strength
to continue the fight and she can return to a curative treatment plan. If
that's not to be, Hospice will help her to live comfortably and pass away
with dignity. That is a priceless gift for Debbie and her family. We will
be sad, but grateful that we've known her...even those of us who have known
her only via cyberspace.

Praying for and sending tons of healing Drool to Debbie and her family.
May she rest peacefully and pain free during this time and if possible may
her poor body be healed. She's fought a good fight and done so much for
homeless hounds over the years.
Hugs to her and her family and hounds...

Last night on the news a farmer in Indiana was interviewed. Propane in Indiana has quadrupled in price because of demand and the severe cold. Last winter he heated his home and barn for $2000. this year it is $8000. and an article in USA TOday noted that the cost of propane had doubled in North Dakota and a woman had frozen to death in her home there when she ran out of propane and could not afford more to heat her trailer. what does this have to do with bassets? Last week Leslie Ames of Basset rescue of Montana ran out of propane. Generous Droolers have been pitching in to help. And there is a current fundraiser. Go to http://www.youcaring.com/other/quilt-for-warmth/133989 and take a chance on winning a lovely queen/king size Basset hound quilt made from the fabric stashes of Val Brewer, Daria Emma! and Doug Dropp. It's going to be a long winter. Let's help out our Montana bassets.

Good afternoon all ,and healing drool been sent to all in need. This is
Jasmin and Joshua chiming in, on Saturday we had an adventure, we had guests
staying for the weekend and somehow or other the front gates were opened and
we took the gap. As we were leaving our house the neighbours who were
sitting on their front deck saw us leaving our house ,as we rounded the
corner they opened there front gates and called us in closing the gates
after we entered, my brother and I went on a sniffing frenzy as we had been
wanting to get into that yard for years as that is where the Border Collies
,Dalmatians and kitty cats live. The slaves were soon after us ,after the
guests told them that we had left our yard. Fortunately the neighbours were
able to contain their four legged family on the deck and only aloud them
back into their yard after the slaves had saddled us up and removed us from
their garden. We are sending be comfortable and respond favourably to the
gentle and loving care of Hospice to Debbie .We are sending get well and
stay well drool to all humans in need , especially Marlene as well as
houndies Philby, Maggie , Sebastion, Howard, Pierre, Pumpkin, Dex and
Barkley. We are sending welcome drool to Murphy. Milton and Largo. We are
sending comforting and Heart healing drool to the slaves and furfriends of
Flash , Barney, Henry Long Fellow , Daisy and Mugwort who have all recently
left for the Bridge and we will also ask our slave to give us extra treats
and light candles in their memory.
Jasmin and Joshua busy planning our next breakout.
Lilly, Justin and Jade ATB looking in with interest.
Slaves William and Johnathan forever busy with one thing or another.

I know a lot of you must be wondering about what in the world has
happened here this past week. Now that the tip of my thumb i cut off
making salad is healing well.... I can type .
One week ago I woke up to a shock. My house was very cold and the
propane I checked .....tank Zero. Called for an emergency next day
delivery. Done.
In mean time I had to check Shelter........check barn...check all the
animals...coats were put on.....extra space heaters borrowed which blew
out my electrical outlets/circuits. So much snow that I had to call
the fire dept. and cross pawsies they would come help me save the
shelter runs from being caved in. They can hold 2 ft of snow, but if it
rained at all......that frozen weight would do them in. Only one other
time many years ago did I have to worry about that. 2 young strong
firemen came happily and offered to help Basset Rescue of MT>
Then the electrical wall heater kept shutting off in the shelter lobby
and the water pipes are there so that problem became an urgent
situation. I had to call on backup for that!! One of my mountain men
friends who live way way up into the mountain came down to help me.
omg.... was I relieved as frozen pipes would of meant to close the
shelter till summer and hoping that none burst!
With elect. problems in the house here, it ruined the t.v. dish
cables......too much snow and frigid weather got em.. The puter was
down. etc etc.
At one point just to get heat inside the house here, orange long
extension chords I brought in to see which outlets worked and which did
not. I have the highest respect for Electricians!!
I guess during all this I got stressed and so worried I called Chris and
Jim Bly over in WMBR. Friends for years now and I was exhausted.
Chris dived into action and helped me think of what to
do......especially needing funds.....Val, Trish, ..........well they all
got together and now we have the quilt fundraiser on youcaring.com and
the paypal for mtbassetrescue at yahoo.com with funds /ENOUGH NOW TO GET A
FULL PROPANE TANK AND MEDICAL CARE FOR SMITTY AND HANK./
This overwhelming generosity shown to us from the Drool family has blown
me away. I cried to know that so many of you care . There are just no
words I can express from me or from the Bassets and animals here on the
ranch. To say THANK YOU to all of you just seems not enough but its all
we have besides much love from Basset Rescue of MT> to each of you .
Each one of you : an extraordinary person with a caring heart. I know
there are many more of you with harsher circumstances than us
here.....floods, fires, Bassets leaving for the
Bridge....ice.......roads not open...We have healing Drool to send you
.....its just not /warm /healing drool. Plus healing drool goes out to
you Debbie W. !!
Doug D. i know I missed calling you for your Big Birthday. So I am
sending over to you a huge HUGE BIRTHDAY GREETING!!
And Chris Bly.....you stepped in to make all this happen since I am not
a computer person much.....Your support and caring ......the emotional
help to help get me past this is something I will never forget. YOU
ARE MY HERO.

Young Charlie, a red-and-white basset, has five inches of white at the tip of his tail.
Our Elsinore, a black-and-tan basset, arrived ten years ago next month with no white at all in her tail. Over the years, however, she?s started growing three white hairs, then ten, then twenty, and now at the age of maybe 12 or 13, she has about an inch-long tip of mostly white hairs. In the overall spirit of aging, she?s now getting white hairs further down her tail. It?s been fun watching this slow color change she?s been doing over the years.
