[Dailydrool] Singing to a hound

I like singing to my bassets. They have their own songs, two for each. Our Elsinore’s are Cheap Trick’s “I Want You to Want Me,” because it seems to express exactly what she expects from us, and a song I’ve adapted to “She’s my growly girl, just my little growly girl; she’s my growly girl, growly, growly girl” which I sing to her when cuddling is about to turn into roughhousing. I wish I could remember the real lyrics to that tune. I’ve been singing the bastardized version for so long now the right words are lost to me.

Young Charlie’s songs are, of course, those old Jacobite songs “O Charlie Is My Darlin” and “My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean.” Sometimes I change the lyrics of the second to “My Charlie lies over the backyard, my Charlie lies over his bed. My Charlie lies over the dog park, oh bring back my Charlie to me.” He’s a dog, so it doesn’t matter if it doesn’t rhyme.
