Pam, we all whole-heartedly agree with you hollering at your irritating neighbour; you were totally right, and I hope in future they will be more considerate. We have had some irritating neighbours over the years but generally they have been good neighbours, and we are fortunate to have some basset-loving (and basset-feeding) neighbours currently. Firstly the neighbours at the quayside in the village regularly leave their meat left-overs for Morse and we get a little doggie bag to take away, or occasionally they will drop in on their way home from the butchers and drop in a bone. Sometimes though, Morse finds he has to go find his fortune. Like he did last week. He decided to call in on Pat who lives over the humpback bridge from us, so over we toddled. Pat as always welcomed us in and immediately made her way to the biscuit tin with Morse in hot pursuit. Having had his biscuit, we both stood in the kitchen chatting and Morse pattered off into the lounge. A few seconds later we heard a scuffle and a CLONK. Pat seemed to realise what was happening and shot out, and the next thing I knew she was escorting Morse back down the stairs. It was unlike him to take a tour of her upstairs as she has a very steep staircase, but he was extremely reluctant to come down, and was trying desperately to wriggle away and turn back. I joked with Pat "what is there, a steak up there or something?" to which Pat said (obviously trying to cover her deep disappointment) "er, ye-eesss, it was my dinner, I popped it up on the stairs when I heard the door". It HAD been a big steak and kidney pie. It had obviously looked very nice, and it smelled good. Morse had obviously thought so too. Morse ended up taking the rest of the steak and kidney home. Poor Pat.
