I have had many heart dogs and some I let go to better homes and some I kept
and felt guilty because we have a rescue and I wondered if we were being
unfair to make our own dogs live through the confusion of different dogs
coming and going all the time sometimes we got dogs with rage and after they
got comfortable no one was safe and sometimes new frail or frightened dogs
we would put in bed with us and I wondered what our heart dogs thought if
they thought we were replacing them with new dogs or if they had a sense of
we were just trying to help a poor abused afraid new dog feel safe. It is a
hard decision to be a rescue and to have many dogs, I loved a lot but let
them go and I have lost all of our own dogs they all died a few years back
now all we have are rescues but many of them are also heart dogs like
Stewie who came to us with heartworm bald and broken teeth loaded with fleas
and so willing to give up but so wanting to be loved. Buster whose family
just did not love him anymore because he was too big. Jo Jo Bear a puppy
mill momma who lived her life in a cage and has just recently after twelve
years started to warm up to our touch, Looney who bit everyone and still
does bite me on occasion but her eyes are full of desire to be loved given
up by family after family till she landed here, Fuzzy who used to be called
Sampson with mega esophagus and irritable bowel so sweet he has a club foot
but he is ten now and too old to worry about it he gets along just not real
well....... many many heart dogs and we love them all and miss the ones who
left.
I also have a Charlie Doug I am sorry you lost your Charlie we have a
Charlie for some reason he just cannot be housetrained completely and he is
soooo jealous of other dogs, he is housetrained but gets rebellious now and
then just a silly boy.
