dixie is doing well after her cataract surgery on weds. we didn't know she
had cataracts, but when the vet saw her he urged us to go to an eye
specialist. they found cataracts in both eyes, with microphacia sp? which
means her lenses are smaller than they should be and they were off center.
because of this she had limited vision around the damaged lens. her left
eye was unable to accomodate a new lens and the old one was removed. she
will not be able to see close up with that eye. heck, i told the doctor
she doesn't like to read the newspaper. the right eye got a new lens, but
it was the size of one they put in a yorkie. because this eye,s pressure
was 18, still high but normal and because the surgery would cause
inflammation he lasered the eye as he would for glaucoma. we noticed a
difference right away.......her eyes look less googly, although we didn't
know there was cataracts, and he said it will bring functional vision to
80% from 20%. she was a stray, that luckily made her way to tri state, and
we adopted her 6 months ago. she must be one strong girl to have survived
with such limited vision on the streets, and no wonder she was so fearful
of cars when we got her. she is sweet, loveable, goofy and despite the bad
breeding that she represents, we love her . nancy, einstein and dixie
