This happened to my Clara (ATB). It might be nothing, but I would take
him in and have a vet look at him.

A few years after she lost her bark, she started having laryngeal
spasms. I didn't know it at the time. All I saw was gasping for air,
which eventually led to fainting. My regular vet at the time (who I no
longer use)thought it was heart related and I got on the waiting list to
see the cardiologist.

The last time it happened she stopped breathing and I had to give her
mouth to nose resuscitation. I packed her into the car and drove to the
the emergency vet, where they figured out what was really going on.
After an overnight in the emergency vet, I got her in to see a surgeon
who did laryngeal tieback surgery on one side. This is essentially what
they do when they "debark" a dog, but it was lifesaving for her. Once
she had the surgery, the fainting disappeared and she lived another
couple of years, eventually leaving me due to kidney failure.

I don;t want to alarm you, but I think you are right to take this
seriously.
