As some of you know, I have been working hard with our fearful Horton,
to get him to appreciate strange dogs. I have been taking him out and
stuffing him full of treats when dogs go by, so he can associate good
things with strange dogs.
Yesterday we went out the door, and without any warning, Hort
immediately starting dragging me toward the street, then up it. I have
never seen this little guy move so fast--imagine us flying along, with
me dragging at the rear, with the leash fully extended, Horton's feet
flying as he ran out in front of me. We far outdistanced Drew and
Dexter, who probably had no idea what was going on. Fortunately I had
gotten a glimpse of Buddy, the mutt from the top of our street, so I had
an idea why Horton was in such a rush.
We came alongside Buddy, on the opposite side of the street, and Horton
insisted on dashing over to meet his new pal. It seems that he was
determined to catch up with him and play. When he seemed to be finished
greeting Buddy, we went to the other side of the street again to
continue our walk, but that wasn't good enough. Hort insisted that Buddy
had to come over and play with him for quite a while before he was ready
to move on. It seems that Horton has indeed found a buddy, one who likes
to hump him, much to the embarrassment of his humans. They had a great
time together.
Horton may not take to every dog so well, but he sure did a turnaround
with this little guy whom he used to bark at incessantly. If he
continues to be so taken with him, I may have to get wings!

friendly Horton
