I have to agree with Val. The right dog WILL come along Marlene! The key is
to fill out applications and have them approved and waiting for the right
basset or other dog. After we were ready for another dog when our first
basset died, I filled out my application with GABR because they serve
IL,IN, and St. Louis. It was all ready to go when Elwood showed up on the
site. He was not what I thought I was looking for at all. I thought I was
looking for a submissive 2-4 year old happy, active male. As soon as I saw
Elwood's picture I had this strange feeling he was the dog. He was 7, and
96 lbs! I had an argument with God and it became clearer and clearer this
was our new basset. He was dumpy and extremely laid back. He was a pro at
doing the flat basset on a walk and there was NO carrying him home when he
did it. He was a complete delight! He got along fantastic with the other
two elderly bassets and he was a champ when we got a puppy when he was 9.
We did get him down to 72 pounds and he looked great at that weight. I miss
him the most of all the bassets that have gone to the bridge. So, don't
give up hope and be open minded!
