[Dailydrool] The Dailydrool and MBR

I am mostly a lurker now, but the Dailydrool and MBR both played a huge role in my adulthood dog choices and many of my Facebook friendships today.  Thank you to you both.  Driving to Michigan for two waddles was part of my early marriage vacation fun - we will never forget them.
Your devotion to Basset Hounds was a wonderful inspiration to me.
Thank you,Karen Muchmore

Bev,

You might think I'm nuts for this suggestion: have you thought about
getting in touch with an animal communicator to try to get some insight
into Conley's aggression toward Doc?

My daughter has two horses that she rides in shows. One of them, Felix,
has always acted up and goes a bit wild at shows and when being
trailered. Jamie contacted an animal communicator in New Jersey (we live
in Virginia), and this woman has worked miracles just by telling Jamie
why Felix was acting the ways he was. She knew things about Felix that
Jamie definitely did not divulge, like he won't pick up his front left
lead because of some arthritis in his right rear hock, and that a joint
supplement would help (it did). He's afraid of trailers because he
thinks it might get struck by lightning, so the communicator told him
Jamie would never take him on the trailer if there were storms in the
area. The next day he walked right on the trailer... and the list goes
on.

If you'd like to know more, send me an email ( nancykay9 at gmail.com ) and
I can either put you in touch with Jamie, or find out the contact
information for the animal communicator. Jamie says it's the best $50
she has ever spent!

Oh my how could one choose

Each piece has a story and love and friendship behind it~~my gifts of
memorial to Bob the DOg so much more meaningful than the pieces they are is
the love behind them.

each piece basset crap has a story and each time I dust them (admittingly
not often enough) I think of who gave it to me..or who I gave one to..

I think my favorite basset thing is the dailydrool and the friends I have
collected around the world~~can't even imagine what my life would be had I
not found the dailydrool

When Mom was in a nursing home, before I got her home, albeit hospice home
care, I used to pass a shop called Specialty Lotions and Potions.

I had an immediate connection with the owner, Peggy, and she had a basset
mix when she was growing up.

In those days, Pierre was my travel companion, and she visited with him in
her shop.

I have huge allergies to bug bites.

I bought a holistic bug repellent from Peggy,  and it is called SOS the
natural Bug away spray.

For the last four years, I have been almost bug bite free, and I know it is
safe to use, and when the pests are rampant, I even use it on the hounds,
although the K9 advantix works great for them mostly.

Peggy has an online shop...  Specialty Lotions and Potions. com, and her
prices are great.

Just saying, and I hope this is a help to some out there, and by the way,
it smells lovely and natural.

Jackie, and of course healing drool to all in need.

Bev:

I received an e-mail from the Whole Dog Journal advertising a book that
they are putting out called "FIGHT!  A practical guide to the treatment of
Dog-Dog aggression".  I have not read or ordered it yet, and have no
affiliation with them outside of receiving their publications.  But I  thought of
the book and you when I read your post.  Available through their  website for
$12.95.  Hope this helps.  Peace is very nice.  Good  luck.

One of my favorite pieces of basset memorabilia is Pam Tansey's print of "I
waited up".  Reminds me of my Sophie now ATB.

Doc and Conley took place, Conley suddenly  stood up, snarling, and attacked
Doc from clear across the living room,  chased him into his crate, grabbed
Doc's cheek and would not let go with  two adults trying to release his
grip: he continued fighting us as we  slammed the door on Doc's crate and
wrestled a roaring dog, spinning and  snapping even with a blanket over his
head into his own crate.
We  immediately covered the crate and removed Doc from the room and shut
the
door.
Conley continued to growl and snarl for a good three  minutes.

There goes our peaceful two or three days. I could cry. I  am.

Q: What basset crap could I not live without? A: All of it! Ok, I have so much basset stuff it is unreal. Although I am sure that there is someone out there that probably has even more than I do. I think that there is only 2 rooms in the house, (2 bathrooms) that don't have anything basset in them. I have stuffed animals, to include a 2-3ft tall Hush Puppy. I have pictures, figurines, and concrete statues. I have Christmas ornaments, and a wall rug picture that is an original Hush Puppy Shoe display that hung in our local shoe store for a few decades. But I would give all of my basset crap up in order to keep my hounds safe, healthy and with me forever. So I guess the basset crap that I can't live without, are my two living breathing hounds that actually crap! Lol

Know everyone is as horrified and disappointed as I about the latest
brouhaha between Momperson and Mr Biskit's Conley and Doc.
Also am sure it felt even worse after having the few days when things
seemed to have taken a turn for the better, thus giving tentative hope.
However, I do think there IS cause for a bit of optimism -- perhaps the
truce period, tho sadly short-lived, means the hormones are diminishing
and will continue to do so and make a difference in the long run.
I am not a firm, slavish believer in the Dog Whisperer, Cesar Milan, tho
he does give a good many helpful suggestions, nor have I read his book.
That being said, could there be any help to be found there? Remember his
discussing "red zone" dogs.
Some solution must be found, obviously, before serious, life-altering
damage is done either to one of the dogs or the humans trying to intervene.

Ruger the  "psycho circus ringmaster" reporting in from the 3 ring circus that is Howling Hound Weather Acres. In farm news: this morning Momma did all the normal farm and home chores. But I am the one exhausted from ring mastering the circus that is my little farm. 1st: it 0'dark-thirty, Xander go to the gate and whine, we hear momma rolling over in bed to ignore our cries. So Xander whisper a magic word and wam-bam- thank you dog the gate open. So we go running through the kitchen, through the living room and down the hall and into the master bedroom. She can't ignore us now with 2 fuzzy faces in her face! Momma say it sounded like a heard of rhinoceros coming through the  house.  2ndly the Energy company guy show up this morning to check the meter, as momma was drinking coffee and watching the news. So she have some questions for him, so she go out to yap at him and what that crazy hound Xander do? He drank mommas coffee!!! I told him not to, but he not listen. Momma not h
appy when she come back in. So you would think that after drinking about 1/2 a cup of Joe that Xander be bouncing off the walls....but nope, he sleep on the couch most of the morning. That hound dog not right in his pea brain.  3rdly momma canned another batch of bread and butter pickles. And that is my 3 ring circus.

This is Miss Delilah Belle Basset ob NJ.  Oh, the trials and tribulations I
have had dis week!

I hab always been a lumpy, bumpy gurl.  Had some ob them taken off at the
vetspital and some they just watch.  Over the past two or three months Mama
noticed I had a squishy lump on my rear end, above my hip area.  It was the
same size for awhile but recently it gotted MUCH bigger.  She gibs me some
stuff sprinkled on my kibble my arthuritiz...which is supposed to help
"keep down inflamation" - at least that's what Mama says - but my lump kept
gettin' bigger 'n bigger.  So, we went to the vetspital.  I don't really
like going there except for the outside smells; LOTS of other dogs leeb
p-mail outside,  hehehe.  I hide behind Mama's legs when I go inside.

The vet sticked a needle inside my bump and some yucky stuff camed out and
they sent it off to get it checked out to be sure it wasn't the nasty
C-word.  It was just a YUCKY keratinic cyst...something Bassets like me get
'cuz ob our special oily skin.  They told Mama to come back in a few days
but by Thursday it gotted bigger and BIGGER and I did NOT feel well at
all!  I did not want to eat foodies or treats or anyfing!  I didn't even
want to go outside because I feeled SO sick.  So, Mama took me back to the
vetspital and I had a fever of *105 degrees! T*hat was why I felt so sick.

So, they drained some more yucky stuff from my lump and gibbed me some
medicine and told Mama to just let me rest for a few days while the
medicine worked to kill the yucky germs.  Last night I gotted up and went
into the kitchen to lie on the cool tile floor and all of a sudden my lump
EXPLODED!  My human sister found a HUGE puddle ob the yucky stuff next to
me on da floor when her got up to go potty and called Mama.  Oh, da STUFF
what came out of dat lump!  It was SO stinky!  Mama and her cleaned up the
floor and me and Mama putted a pair ob her old, cottten unnerpants and
pinned it so all the yucky stuff wouldn't get all over ebberyfing.  How
embarrassin' to wear people unnerpants...sheesh!

Anyway, dey been putting warm cloths on my lump and helpin' the yucky stuff
to come out and then washing me up wif warm water.  My lump is much, much
smaller...but still leaking a bit.

Tonight I felt better enuf to eat some grilled chickie dat Mama gibbed to
me.  I did not eat anyfing else today but, oh...dat chickie smelled really
good!  She told me I was a good gurl for eatin' da chickie.  It's cuz I
feelin' MUCH, much better.

The doctor at the vetspital is going to take off my lump next Tuesday so it
won't get infected again.  They tell me I am a very pretty, good gurl
there...so I like them - eben if it does smell funny.

Mama told her FB friends dis story and lots ob you on there were putting
paws together and sendin' drool to us.  We say FANKS a lot!  Drool and
prayers work!

Lub and snooters...

I have been owned by  Bassets since 1989, and I have never had a  problem
with doing nails. This new one, I am guessing has been dremeled or  quicked.
He will let you touch is feet, but NO trimming. Scared to death -as in
panic mode. I hate to start having it done at the vets office, he loves  them so
far. They did a nice job when he was out for an x-ray, but I cant  have him
knocked out for toe bones! Any suggestions would be greatly  appreciated.

Bev, my heart breaks for you.  I personally know the stress and anguish you must be feeling with the aggression in Conley.  I'm not sure if you remember but our basset, Maggie, was also very aggressive.  At the time we also had a chocolate lab.  We just thought she played hard but at times he would cry out although she never drew blood.  After he died of kidney failure, she was an only dog for awhile.  This didn't change her aggression.  She bit everyone in the house including me several times and we would always make excuses for her.  We got her as a puppy so we knew she hadn't been mistreated.  Later when she went down in the rear, she refused to let us help and would growl and snap.  Fearing a bite in the face, we had to put her down.  It broke my heart because we felt we had tried SO hard!  Could Conley be in pain and he is lashing out?  Does he think it's HIS place now to be Alpha?  I wish I had words of wisdom to pass along but I don't.  Just know we are here for you an
d some of us know of the stress and pain firsthand and are praying for you all.  ?
