[Dailydrool] Thundershirt

Our Roscoe is also deathly afraid of thunderstorms and fireworks and we too
were not successful with the thundershirt. He is a big boy and I think part
of it was it just didn't fit him properly so we went to the vet who
suggested Benadryl. Due to his weight and size we tried four Benadryl on
him and no luck with those either but then I found something on Amazon
similar to Composure but different ingredients - NaturVet Quiet Moments
Calming Aid. Roscoe takes these as directed and while it doesn't completely
stop the fear, he doesn't pace and pant but merely sits there and snuggles
close. They aren't super expensive and I think it may be the tryptophan in
them that calms him down. Might be worth a try.

The other thing we do for him is we have found a safe place where he totally
calms down as long as someone is there with him. He free roams and does not
like crates however he has found his comfort spot in the shower in the
bathroom. As long as he can curl up on the shower floor with the lights on
he lets the storms pass without a lot of issue. Good luck finding what
works for your baby.

Just tested this out on Browser last night when we had the loud thunder and
rains from Erika in So. FL.

It failed miserably as Browser was up most of the night (as were we),
panting and shaking.
Anyone else have any suggestions. Wanted not to give meds but looks like
this will have to be a choice and will, of course, speak to his vet about
this problem.

Turned on our white noise machine real loud and didn't make a dent.

Sally Russell, Browser (I am soooo tired today) and Sprite the Shih Tzu (I
slept thru the night)

OK Folks.? I need everyone who bought a date on the 2016 Daily Drool
Calendar to check the email address that you used when you placed your
order.? Remember to check your SPAM folder too.? I have 31 dates that people
bought but have not sent their stuff in yet.? I just finished going through
everything and made sure everyone got an email.? I really HATE to disappoint
anyone but I did commit to everyone that I would have this calendar in on
time and I did tell everyone the deadlines in plenty of time to make them
and have posted several reminders.? You have the rest of the evening to get
them to me at dailydrool at bassetrescueflorida.com? I want everyone to enjoy
the calendar.....If you didn't get an email from me,? your stuff is in and
looks OK.

If the graphic artist has any issues with your pictures,?? we will contact
you during the month of September.? I cannot send her anything new after I
submit the info and pictures to her so after today,? I can't accept your
information/picture and I will put a pretty picture or saying on your date.?
Again, I HATE to disappoint people so please get your stuff in.

I am working with a few people because of a shopping cart mix up but other
than that...I am done, finished, and cross-eyed from staring at these
spreadsheets every weekend for the last month.? September is Graphic Artist
month and during that time, the store is open for purchase of additional
calendars and stands.? The calendar goes to print October 1 so sales will
close down at the end of September.? Shipping will commence the first week
of November and will finish shipping the second week of November.? You will
have plenty of time to mail them as holiday gifts.?

Thanks so much for everyone's support and cooperation.? I got some really
nice notes from people expressing their appreciation for us continuing on
with the tradition and I was really touched by how much everyone loves their
bassets.? Ahrooo!?Pam Farris? Basset Rescue of Florida, Inc.?

?the bearer of bad tidings re: THUNDERSHIRT:

One of the notaBassets was terrified of thunder. Also the smoke alarm. To
the extend that I seriously thought the og might just have a heart attack so
I bought a thundershirt.

Maybe the first couple of times it worked, we followed all the directions
carefully but after that, directions or not, it had very little effect.
We tried COmpoSure. Again, the first couple of times it worked, well enough
for me to order more which never worked again, at all, and getting it down
him was worse almost than having him try to crawl into my skin.
Holistic oils and potions both topical and oral proved to be, sorry
everyone, totally useless.

Good news is: several friends of mine have had wonderful success with
Thundershirts, or composure, or oils and potions, but not me. Keep trying.

MomPerson to Conley (who ignores storms utterly) and Doc (who shows early
signs of Belgian nervousness....no please no.)?

Our Baxter is absolutely terrified of rain and storms and loud noises in
general. He has a thundershirt and it helps a lot as long as the storms
don't get too intense, then we have to add in drugs, but not as strong as we
used before the thundershirt. When Baxter hears rain he comes and gets me,
he wants his shirt on, he knows it helps. Have you tried Valerian? It is
an herb that is calming, I keep it for the dogs (works on people, too), and
give Baxter 2 when it storms. Added to his shirt, it's usually enough,
although every now and then we have a storm that requires some Valium. Bea
and Holly get one capsule of Valerian each during bad storms, and do not
need thundershirts or Valium. Poor little buddies, I feel so bad for them
when they're terrified of the noisy storms.

Hello droolers
Morse is nearly 11 and I am trying to get together opinions on different
supplements for his achy joints. I know glucosamine, chondroitin and MSM is
meant to be excellent. I would really welcome suggestions and what seems to
work?
thank you
