[Dailydrool] Buttermilk

I must say I have never thought to use buttermilk on the bassets. I may
have to try it because two of the three are having real gas issues lately.
I can say that I always used buttermilk with my poultry. Chickens are very
prone to a bloody diarrhea called coccidiosis. It is very deadly and kills
little chickens quite quickly. If you put down the buttermilk in the pen at
the first sign of illness (not bloody diarrhea, but just droopy looking
birds and a distinct smell), it will keep you from having a full outbreak.
It puts good bugs in the digestive track. Then they overcome the bad ones.
If you don't use it soon enough, you have to use sulfa drugs. The problem
is that then you pretty much have to use it up until slaughter, because the
gut flora is just too off to beat down the coccidia.

I was always told that buttermilk worked way better than yogurt. I may
really have to try this in the dogs.
